As a child, I was constantly asking my mom about her work. I loved hearing about the tiny babies that she cared for in the NICU. She was passionate about caring for sick and premature newborns and she was good at it. I will never forget how amazed I was watching her place IV’s in the tiniest of veins when I had the opportunity to shadow her at the hospital. She inspired me to become a pediatrician.
My mom passed away in May 2023 after a brief, aggressive illness. In her memory, I am running the Wineglass Marathon in Corning, NY on October 6, 2024. All funds that I raise will go to supporting her life’s work of caring for babies in the NICU. - Christine Macken |
