New Referrals Reopen October 1
We’re updating our program systems and are temporarily pausing new referrals for Food & Fuel and Safe Start Essentials programs. We will resume accepting referrals on October 1. Thank you for your patience!
Available Assistance Programs
Food & Fuel
Gift Card Assistance to keep families at the bedside
When a baby is in the NICU, the cost of meals and travel can add stress during an already difficult time. Project Sweet Peas’ Food & Fuel Assistance Program provides a one-time $100 gift card to eligible families to help cover these everyday expenses, easing some of the financial strain so parents can focus on their baby.
Safe Start Essentials
Car Seat & Travel Cribs for the Transition Home
Bringing a baby home from the NICU is an important milestone, but the cost of essential supplies can feel overwhelming. Project Sweet Peas’ Safe Start Essentials Program helps eligible families prepare for this transition by providing a car seat or pack and play, along with an essentials kit containing educational resources and supportive items to help families feel more prepared for life at home.
How to access Assistance Programs
Both programs require a referral from a hospital professional. Please have your NICU social worker or care team reach out to corin@projectsweetpeas.com to get started.
Is every application approved?
Funding is limited, and a referral does not guarantee assistance. Applications are reviewed weekly. When eligible requests exceed available funding, recipients are selected randomly. Only one assistance award may be provided per hospitalized infant across these programs.
How long before I hear about my submission?
Please allow up to one week for your application to be processed. All updates will be sent by email. If you haven’t heard from us, please check your spam or junk folder.
If selected, how will I receive the assistance?
Food & Fuel Assistance
Once approved, you’ll receive an email from Project Sweet Peas via Tremendous with a secure link to claim your $100. When redeeming your link, you can choose:
-
A digital or physical Visa card
-
Select gas or food gift cards
Please check your spam or junk folder if you don’t see the email.
Safe Start Essentials
Once approved, your car seat or pack and play, along with your Safe Start Essentials Kit, will be shipped to the home address provided on your application. Please make sure your mailing address is complete and accurate. Updates about your assistance will be sent by email.
How often can I apply to receive assistance?
Due to limited funding, at this time only one assistance award per hospitalized infant is available across our Food & Fuel and Safe Start Essentials programs. If you have already received assistance for your infant through either program, you cannot receive an additional award through the other.

If your application is denied due to limited funding, you will receive a link to reapply the following week if your baby is still hospitalized in the NICU.
If you have specific questions regarding the application process, please email us at Corin@ProjectSweetPeas.com.
