A NICU stay can be financially challenging for families. Project Sweet Peas understands this need and provides a one-time, $100 award to families across the United States to help offset meal and travel costs. Project Sweet Peas’ Family Grant Eligibility FAQ
Who is eligible to receive assistance from Project Sweet Peas?
You must currently have an infant(s) receiving inpatient care in a United States Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Special Care Unit, or Specialty Pediatric Hospital. Your infant(s) must have been in inpatient care longer than two weeks. You must have a valid U.S. mailing address.
Due to shipping limitations, residents of Hawaii and Alaska must be able to accept financial assistance through PayPal
Is there an age limit to apply?
Parents must be over the age of 18 and the infant(s) must be under one year of age.
What bills or costs can be covered?
Funds may be used for expenses incurred during a child's stay in the NICU. Please note that current awards are limited to $100 per family/per year.
What paperwork must be filled out?
The Food and Fuel Fund Application must be completed by the parent or legal guardian to be considered for financial assistance.
Is every application approved?
No, due to limited funding we are unable to honor every request. Assistance will be randomly awarded to those who qualify.
How long before I hear about my submission?
We receive multiple applications per day, so it could take up to 1-3 weeks.
Am I guaranteed to have all of my bills paid for?
Unfortunately, no. Funds are limited to $100 per family, no matter the family’s financial need, and can only be used to offset travel costs (gas, public transportation, uber, cab fare, etc) OR providing meals for the family in the hospital.
If selected, how will I receive the funds?
Recipients can choose to receive funds electronically through a personal - not business - PayPal Account or to have a Visa gift card mailed to them.
Residents of Hawaii and Alaska must be able to receive funds electronically through Paypal.
How often can I apply?
If your eligible application was not selected and are still in the NICU, you will be invited to reapply during the next award period 30 days from the date of your submitted application.
I was awarded a grant in the past, can I apply again?
If you have previously been awarded a grant you must wait one calendar year before submitting another request, and not for the same infant(s).
I do not have custody of the infant, can I apply?
No, you must have full legal custody of the infant at the time submitting for assistance.
The NICU my baby is staying at is located outside the United States. Am I eligible to apply?
Unfortunately, we can only offer funding to families who have infants staying in neonatal intensive care within the United States.

The personal - not business - PayPal Account email or physical mailing address to receive the funds if approved

Hawaii and Alaska residents must be able to receive funds through PayPal. Enter the address carefully, once funds are sent they cannot be reissued.

Picture of Drivers license or State issued ID which MUST be taken WITH the applicant's infant(s) in the SAME PHOTO.

This can be done next to an isolette/crib if physical access to the infant(s) is not possible, and can block the face or identifying features of the infant(s); no part of this photo will be shared anywhere, and is for verification purposes only!

In the event that the infant(s) absolutely cannot be in the photo, then a Photo ID may be submitted pictured next to the hospital's business card with the submission date clearly written on it.

If the application is submitted without the proper verification ID photo, or any photo tampering is discovered or suspected, it will be automatically denied.
