Mica's Story

Picture
The Texas division of Project Sweet Peas, is run by Mica Marie Raindl, the proud mama of 3 Rainbow babies (a baby born after the loss of another).  Mica was recruited by a good friend to help put together some care packages to deliver to a hospital in honor of Clara Harmonson’s son Zachary.  This special little boy was in the NICU for 50 days before going home to spend the little time he had left with his loving parents.  The creation of care packages started as a small gathering of friends bringing items over to Clara’s house once a year in honor of Zachary’s birthday.  However, Mica’s own experience with infant loss lead her to hope to expand this to help many more families.

Mica has lost 3 babies over the years.  Each loss has affected her and her family and she came to understand the need of care and comfort for parents during their journeys.  She wants others to know they are not alone.   We understand that this can be an emotional, overwhelming and sometimes exhausting experience, where joy and hope comes in baby steps.  Mica decided the once a year get together had the potential to expand to be able to help many more families and started researching ways of making this happen…then came the call out for new volunteers to expand the Project Sweet Pea family into Texas.  Mica applied and was accepted to start the Texas division.

Mica has included all three of her rainbow babies in the preparation of care packages, deliveries and fund raisers since they were very young (her twins since birth).  What better way to teach her children how to be compassionate and caring people…to teach them how to realize that we never know the trials of another person’s life or when someone might need a simple word of encouragement?  The joy and pride of her children after they have made a delivery or created items for care packages is also a wonderful incentive to have them continue to help in the PSP mission.

Our prayer is that with our baskets parents will feel His love, provision and hope.  We pray our gifts are useful, that they make parents' NICU stay if not easier, at least more comfortable.
